A THIRD HAND VOLUNTEERS INC.
Supporting our Local Community
Who are we:
We are a group of like minded people who came together in January 2012 to give some of our time and expertise back to our community in the Shire of Mansfield. We have a great time socially with dinners and outings and our meetings are lively and enthusiastic and we now have 22 members. Our members contribute when they can and it is not a weekly commitment.
How do we do this:
We work with or help other community groups, either by giving them "A Third Hand" in organising an event or by providing the funds to help them achieve their objectives.
Recently two ladies who work at IGA approached us as they wanted to raise funds for the Foots family whose 9 year old daughter Annie has leukemia. They had sourced 18 raffle prizes from generous Mansfield community so we organised a raffle, helped sell tickets, put on a BBQ and raised approximately $6,000. We were asked by the Tolmie Sports Day Committee if we would like to sell entry and raffle tickets and soft drink, lay out supper that people had brought to share and in return they would donate the takings to us which totalled $1,031. In return we donated this money to the Foots family. They also donated bottles of water and soft drink and we will sell these when we do BBQ's.
These are some of the events where we have volunteered: High Country Targa, the Merrijig Rodeo, the Merrijig Family Fun Day, Mansfield Relay for Life, Million Paws Walk, Red Cross, Mansfield Community Fund car boot sale,
We have cooked many BBQ's some people donate the takings to us like Stolz Sale Day and Mansfield Skate Park.
Others we do to raise money for groups like Mansfield Hospital Auxiliary Golf Day, Christmas Carols for the Mansfield District Business Association and they in turn donate the takings to the Mansfield Hospital, the Rosehaven Hospice, Friends of the Great Victorian Rail Trail, Mansfield Radio Station, and the Foots Family.
Four times a year one member puts out and picks up signage for the Bushmarkets and each year we serve food and drink for the Mansfield Camp Draft for which we are paid.
There seems to be a trend growing here which works for everyone - 'I'll help you and you help me' which brings the community closer together.
